CEREBRAL PALSY (CP)

Cerebral Palsy affect a person's ability to move and maintain balance and posture. CP is the most common motor disability in childhood. Cerebral means having to do with the brain. Palsy means weakness or problems with using the muscles. 

CHARACTERISTIC

Spastic cerebral palsy

  • The affected muscles are tighter and more rigid than usual.

  • The degree of muscle stiffness varies from person to person.

Dyskinetic cerebral palsy

  • Uncontrolled spontaneous movements or spasms can result from an abrupt change in muscle tone from high (tight) to low (floppy).

Ataxic cerebral palsy

  • Balance issues and unstable movement are common.

  • Children frequently struggle with fine motor skills 

  • May have a tremor that gets worse as you move.
